Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Summerslam (1998)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The Lion's Den match between Ken Shamrock and Owen Hart took place in a separate theater inside Madison Square Garden in front of a special crowd, in a ten-foot-high pseudo-circular cage of steel wire with no ropes and a chained-shut door.
  • Sable introduced her mystery tag team partner at the event, with Edge coming through the crowd to make his pay-per-view debut, and Marc Mero and Edge were the initial opponents until Mero tagged in Jacqueline.
  • After defeating The Rock in the ladder match to become Intercontinental Champion for the second time, Triple H had suffered a knee injury and took time off for surgery; on October 9 Vince McMahon stripped him of the title, and Ken Shamrock won the tournament for the vacant championship by beating X-Pac in the final.
  • Many consider the WWF's 1998 SummerSlam the show that permanently turned the tide of the Monday Night War with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the WWF's favor.
