Plot summary

Letty Ortiz and Dominic Toretto are in Havana for their honeymoon when a debt of Dom's cousin Fernando to a local racer named Raldo leads Dom to settle the matter with a street race. He puts his own Impala on the line against Raldo's car. The next day a cyberterrorist called Cipher corners Dom and forces him to work for her. Meanwhile DSS agent Luke Hobbs takes a secret assignment to seize an electromagnetic pulse device from a Berlin military outpost, and he recruits Dom's crew, Letty, Roman Pearce, Tej Parker and Ramsey. On the escape from the raid, Dom goes rogue, sends Hobbs off the road and hands the device to Cipher.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Shooting opened at Myvatn in Iceland on 14 March 2016, where high winds blew a plastic iceberg prop into a paddock. It struck two horses, wounding one and injuring the other so badly that the animal was later put down.
  • James Wan, who had directed Furious 7, was contracted for this film and the ninth, but Universal let him go when he said he wanted to make The Conjuring 2. The studio asked him back after Justin Lin took Star Trek Beyond instead, and Wan refused, saying Furious 7's punishing production had told on his health.
  • To film in Havana the production had to go to two governments at once: in January 2016 it was announced that Universal was seeking approval from both the United States and Cuba to shoot part of the picture there.
  • The film set the record for the best opening by a picture with an African-American director, F. Gary Gray beating the mark he had set himself two years earlier with Straight Outta Compton.
