Trailer

Plot summary

Krypto, a Kryptonian Labrador Retriever, shares Superman's abilities. Their routine changes when Clark Kent begins a romance with Lois Lane, and Krypto's jealousy leads Clark to look for a companion for him at an animal shelter. There a Boxer named Ace makes a break for the door, and Krypto blocks him. Clark and Krypto then help the Justice League against Lex Luthor, who is hauling a meteor loaded with orange kryptonite. A LexCorp test guinea pig named Lulu gets hold of the orange kryptonite herself and gains telekinesis, burning down the shelter as she leaves. The animals left inside gain powers as well: Ace becomes super-strong, PB can change size, Merton gains speed and Chip gains electricity. Lulu captures Clark, and Krypto, whose abilities vanish after he swallows a shard of green kryptonite, runs into the shelter pets.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about DC League of Super-Pets (2022)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Jared Stern developed the pitch after working in an animal shelter, where he noticed how older animals were less likely to be adopted and wondered what if those pets got superpowers.
  • DC League of Super-Pets was the last film produced under the Warner Animation Group name, before the animation studio label folded into Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in 2023.
  • The film's art style was inspired by Art Deco architecture and illustrator J.C. Leyendecker, plus the Art Deco look of the original Superman comics, while Stern wanted the characters and settings to have visible brushstrokes and chunky heroic shapes.
  • Early drafts gave Ace a more prominent role, but he was changed to co-lead once the filmmakers concluded the film should focus on Krypto's relationship with Superman.
  • DC suggested adding Lex Luthor, which led Stern to make the villain Lulu a guinea pig, since he felt guinea pigs, being used as test subjects, would have a chip on their shoulder.
