Plot summary
Jimmy Cullen, known as Driver, walks out of prison after ten years with a single purpose: to find the people he holds responsible for his brother Gary's death. He collects his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle, along with a gun, and a list of names, then presses Roy Grone for more of them. Detective Cicero and Detective Slade Humphries take up the case, and a contract killer known as Killer is hired to go after him.

- Salma Hayek was lined up to play Detective Cicero and pulled out a week before shooting started because of scheduling problems, so Carla Gugino took the part. Phil Joanou had also been announced as director before dropping out and being replaced by George Tillman Jr.
- The Chevrolet Chevelle that Dwayne Johnson's Driver puts on screen is a mongrel: the back end comes from a 1971 or 1972 car while the front is a 1970, most likely because genuine 1970 Chevelle SS 454s are too rare and valuable to use.
