Plot summary
The Royal Rumble leaves the title picture in dispute. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is thrown over the top rope by Bret Hart, lands where no referee is watching, climbs back in and eliminates the remaining field, including Hart, who never sees him return. WWF President Gorilla Monsoon upholds the referees' ruling, and a match is set in which Austin, Hart, The Undertaker and Vader settle the matter under elimination rules. Shawn Michaels then announces that a knee injury forces him to give up the WWF Championship, so the four men compete for the vacant belt instead. On the undercard, Rocky Maivia defends the Intercontinental Championship against Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Owen Hart and The British Bulldog put the Tag Team Championship on the line against Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon, and Marc Mero faces Leif Cassidy.
