Biography

Marshall Bell is an American character actor whose film and television work has included many character parts. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and his family later moved to Denver, Colorado. His first film part was Ronsky in Alan Parker's drama Birdy (1984), and his first major role came as the cruel Coach Schneider in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985). He played Mr. Lachance in Stand by Me (1986), the hitman Webster in Twins (1988), and George, who carried the mutant leader Kuato on his stomach, in Total Recall (1990). Later credits include General Owen in Starship Troopers (1997), warden Marshall Krutch in the award-winning Capote (2005), John Leshing in Nancy Drew (2007), and Principal Rocker in Hamlet 2 (2008). On television, he debuted on The Oldest Rookie in 1987, starred in G vs E, and guest-starred on The X-Files and Deadwood. He also voiced Mr. Sesehund in Heidi 4 Paws (2008).

Early training
Bell was expelled from St. Paul's boarding school in Concord, New Hampshire, then became interested in acting at Fountain Valley School after playing Elwood Dowd in the play Harvey.
A change of course
Bell was discouraged by people who said he was not a good enough actor, so he stopped acting for more than 20 years. He became a consultant who taught business executives to improve their speaking skills.
First role
Bell made his movie debut as Ronsky in Alan Parker's drama Birdy in 1984, and his first major role came the next year as the cruel Coach Schneider in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
