Biography

Robert Englund is an American actor and director who portrayed Freddy Krueger across the A Nightmare on Elm Street films and Freddy vs. Jason. After classical training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he worked in regional theater and won his first film part in Buster and Billie in 1974. Supporting parts came in Big Wednesday (1978), Stay Hungry (1976), and A Star Is Born (1976). Attention came with Willie in the 1983 miniseries V. His Freddy performances began with A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and continued through seven sequels, among them A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), and Freddy vs. Jason (2003). He directed 976-EVIL (1988) and Killer Pad (2008). His awards include a Saturn Award and a Fangoria Chainsaw Award, plus a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
