Plot summary
Mike Max is a film producer in Hollywood, and the fear of an attack weighs on him in his work and in his life. His wife Paige tells him that she is leaving him. A document arrives by email from a NASA employee he met at a conference, and before he opens it he is kidnapped and nearly killed. Surveillance cameras capture the scene, and the footage is watched by Ray Bering, a computer scientist, in his laboratory at the Griffith Observatory. Bering also speaks with an intelligence agent about a new anti-crime satellite surveillance program that Congress has not yet approved.
