Plot summary
Harriet Lauler is a retired businesswoman determined to control everything around her. She learns that a medical condition leaves her little time. She decides to write her own obituary and hires Anne Sherman, a young obituary writer, to help craft the account. To give the story more substance, Harriet seeks new experiences: she takes on a mentoring role with a young kid and becomes a disc jockey. As they work together, she and Anne form a friendship that changes both of their lives. Anne, who must find out the truth about Harriet, finds herself drawn into the older woman's plans.
