Plot summary

High school sophomores Natalie Becker, Jeff Moran and Polly Franklin live in Ohio. Jeff argues with his stepfather Gerry and walks out of the house, and Natalie takes him in while her father is on a business trip; his mother, who wants him home, asks his football coach to drop him from the team. Polly is hurt that James Casey is courting Natalie rather than her, until she meets Zoo Knudsen, a professional baseball player and underwear model. Hiding from an obsessive fan in a lingerie store, the two pose as an engaged couple and Zoo buys Polly a négligée. They kiss in his car, and he invites her to New York to watch one of his games.
