Biography

Molly Shannon is an American actress and comedian who was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2001. Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, she studied drama at New York University and graduated from its Tisch School of the Arts in 1987. She starred in Superstar (1999), a film built around Mary Katherine Gallagher, a character she created as a student at NYU and developed in Saturday Night Live sketches. Her supporting film work includes Never Been Kissed (1999), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Osmosis Jones (2001), Serendipity (2001), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), Evan Almighty (2007), Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) and Private Life (2018), plus the animated Hotel Transylvania (2012). On television she appeared in Enlightened, Divorce, The Other Two, The White Lotus, I Love That for You and Only Murders in the Building, and she won a Film Independent Spirit Award in 2017 for Other People (2016).
