Plot summary
Ben Sobel is a psychiatrist in New York whose patients no longer hold his interest, whose son listens in on his sessions, and whose wedding to Laura MacNamara is approaching. Driving distracted, he rear-ends a car belonging to Paul Vitti, a mob boss, and hands his business card to Jelly, one of Vitti's men. Vitti has begun suffering panic attacks and wants help that stays secret. He comes to Ben's office with a story about a friend who needs a psychiatrist, and Ben sees through the lie. Primo Sindone, a rival with designs on the top rank of the family, is the danger Vitti has been warned about. Vitti and his crew follow Ben to Miami, where the wedding is to take place.
