Plot summary
Federated Airlines is looking for ways to cut what it spends on cabin crew. At the company's Atlanta headquarters, Emily McCoy presents Sally the Flightpal, a humanoid robot from Techtronics Industries, and says that for a fraction of the price of a human flight attendant, the airline could have every plane staffed by Flightpals inside a year. CEO Stanley Warner questions whether a machine is really better than the crew he already has. Techtronics founder Bob Techtronics proposes putting Sally up against the airline's single best flight attendant in a contest of skills. The union, the Fraternal Association of Federated Airlines Flight Attendants, announces its choice for that contest: Larry Gaye.
