Plot summary
Amber Ruffman manages a Tuscan Grove branch in Bakersfield, California, and is unhappy there. Her boss puts her name forward, and she receives an all-expenses-paid place in the chain's management program in Italy. Her friend Emily predicts she will find love. Program supervisor Craig confiscates the passports of everyone taking part, and the group is housed at a company motel instead of the rustic setting the website showed. They are told they may not leave the property without permission. Classes with head chef Liz Bence begin, then CEO Nick Martucci and his assistant Kat arrive; Nick says Amber looks like his late sister.

- Jeff Baena got the idea for Spin Me Round after making The Little Hours, when he read about an Italian restaurant chain whose managerial retreat in Italy fell well below expectations. Wanting the absurd extreme of that premise, he followed reductio ad absurdum.
- Spin Me Round is intentionally set in 2017 to allude to the growth of the #MeToo movement, and Alison Brie said that and the film's "corporate coercion conspiracy" were direct references to personal situations in her own history.
- Spin Me Round shot in Italy over just 22 days in June 2021, though the production had budgeted for 27 days with longer hours. With a full script and little time, the cast mostly stuck to it, though Molly Shannon was given room to riff.
- Spin Me Round was due to shoot in Italy in summer 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy postponed it. Baena and Brie used the delay to expand their outline into a more detailed script, which he noted also made financing easier.
- Amber's sparks with Kat, played by Aubrey Plaza, were written because Baena and Brie knew Plaza's chemistry with the female lead in Happiest Season, which also starred Brie, had been more popular than that film's main love interest.
