Private Life (2018) on Netflix

Plot summary

Rachel Biegler, an author, and her husband Richard Grimes are trying to have a child. Artificial insemination has not worked, so they turn to in vitro fertilization. A blockage keeps Richard from producing sperm, and the surgery to correct it leaves him ten thousand dollars in debt to his brother Charlie and Charlie's wife Cynthia. The couple also sit for an interview with a social worker as part of adopting a child. The in vitro fertilization fails, and their doctor raises the possibility of a donor egg, which would raise the chance of success from four percent to sixty-five. Rachel is against the idea at first. Sadie Barrett, their twenty-five-year-old niece, has left her writing program at Bard College to live with them in New York.
