Plot summary
Harper Steele and Will Ferrell, longtime friends who met while working at Saturday Night Live, drive across the United States after Steele tells him she is a trans woman. The trip opens in New York City, where they stop by Studio 8H and catch up with old colleagues from the show. In Washington, D.C., the two discuss Steele's identity and what their friendship means. At a basketball game in Beech Grove, Indiana, they cross paths with the governor, and word arrives that he has signed a law banning gender-affirming care for minors. In Peoria, Illinois, they meet Dana, a trans woman who made her transition in her later years. Heading for Iowa City, they ask a friend to write a song for the trip.
