Plot summary
Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen meet at Boston College, sharing a car from Boston to their hometown of Linfield, Ohio, and for ten years afterward they keep one week each summer for themselves. She travels the world for her job as a writer; he would rather stay home in Ohio with a book. Then two years pass with the two of them not speaking. David, Alex's brother, plans a wedding in Barcelona, and Poppy calls Alex to say she will be in the city for work. On that first drive they end up in one motel room, and Alex keeps Sarah, the girlfriend he has back home, in mind. The following summer, after Alex and Sarah part, Poppy takes him camping in Squamish.
