Plot summary
Steve and Doug Butabi live at home and work in their father Kamehl's artificial plant store, next door to Fred Sanderson's lighting emporium. The two fathers would like Steve to marry Sanderson's daughter Emily and merge the businesses. Nights belong to the clubs, where the brothers bob their heads to Eurodance and get nowhere with women. Their goal is the Roxbury, a Los Angeles club where the bouncer knows their names are not on the list. After an argument with their father costs them the BMW and their phones, their mother Barbara hands them clunky cell phones and the keys to the delivery van. Denied again at the door, they scrape together a bribe, then go looking for an ATM and collide with a famous driver who fears a lawsuit and gets them inside.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about A Night at the Roxbury (1998)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Chris Kattan claimed in his 2019 memoir that producer Lorne Michaels pressured him to have sex with Amy Heckerling so she would direct A Night at the Roxbury, which she ended up only producing; he said it ended his friendship with Will Ferrell.
- The Roxbury was a real West Hollywood club on the Sunset Strip that closed in 1997, before the film's release; the film's exterior shots are of the former Billboard Live club, and the Mayan Theater in downtown Los Angeles stood in for the interior.
- Amy Heckerling, a fan of the SNL sketch, asked co-creator Steve Koren to write the screenplay; his first draft was likened to Saturday Night Fever, but she was unimpressed, feeling the brothers were from Los Angeles and the sons of an immigrant who disapproved of their lifestyle.
- Several jokes were cut from A Night at the Roxbury, among them a gag where a coke dealer in a bathroom calls his product by different names; once he says what he is selling, the Butabi brothers were to answer that they do not do drugs.
- The film's soundtrack was one of only three film soundtracks DreamWorks Records ever released that weren't tied to its parent company, DreamWorks Pictures; the other two, Dead Man on Campus and The Ladies Man, were also Paramount comedies.
