Plot summary
Bernard, the head elf, and Curtis, who keeps the Handbook of Christmas, tell Scott Calvin of a clause he had overlooked: Santa must take a wife before the next Christmas Eve, or the role is gone. Abby, an elf, also reports that his teenage son Charlie has landed on the naughty list after vandalizing his school. Scott heads home to set things right with Charlie and to look for a wife, losing his Santa look a little at a time, with only a small store of magic to draw on. To cover his absence, Curtis builds a life-sized toy double of Scott to run the North Pole, and Bernard reluctantly tells the elves that Santa has had a makeover. Principal Carol Newman is unimpressed with Charlie and with Scott.
