Plot summary
At 25, Josie Geller is the youngest copy editor at the Chicago Sun-Times, and she has never had a real relationship. Her editor-in-chief, Rigfort, sends her undercover into a high school so the paper can show parents what their children's lives are like. Her first day at South Glen South High School goes badly. She slips back into the awkward persona that ruined her own school days and clashes with the popular girls Kirsten, Gibby and Kristin and with the school's most popular student, Guy Perkins. A kind nerd named Aldys befriends her and invites her into a group of intelligent students, the Denominators. Josie becomes the top student in English and grows close to her teacher, Sam Coulson, who believes she is a student.
