Plot summary
Optimistic Martha cleans rooms at a hotel in Fresno, and when her older sister Shannon, a sex addict, comes out of rehab without a job, Martha gets her hired at the same hotel. To mark Shannon's first shift they go to a bar, then to Martha's house, where Martha tells her where things are kept before leaving for the gym. Shannon goes instead to the home of Edwin, her therapist and lover. At the gym, Martha's trainer Kelly takes an interest in her. The next morning the sisters meet Boris, a guest who claims to know everyone at the hotel. On a break Shannon phones Edwin, who says he has left his wife, and Shannon heads for Boris's room; Martha hears a scream and finds her there, and the sisters set about hiding what happened.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Addicted to Fresno was written to be set in Cleveland, but budget problems made writer Karey Dornetto and director Jamie Babbit move the story to Fresno, a city they picked because it seemed like a place people wanted to get away from.
- Judy Greer and Natasha Lyonne said they took the film's two sisters because the roles flipped how they were normally cast: Lyonne usually played the "trainwreck" and Greer the "levelheaded" one.
