Biography

Jeffrey Tambor is an American actor who began in repertory theater in Milwaukee and reached Broadway in 1976 with the comedy Sly Fox. On television he became known as Hank Kingsley, the sidekick on The Larry Sanders Show, a part that earned him four Emmy nominations, and he later played George Bluth Sr. and his twin brother Oscar on Arrested Development. His films include ...And Justice for All (1979), Mr. Mom (1983), There's Something About Mary (1998), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Hellboy (2004) and its sequel Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), the Hangover trilogy (2009 to 2013), The Accountant (2016) and The Death of Stalin (2017). He voiced characters in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), Tangled (2010) and Trolls (2016). For playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent he won two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.

Tambor's Broadway debut came in 1976 with the comedy Sly Fox, a production directed by Arthur Penn in which he appeared alongside George C. Scott.
Early training
Tambor taught a class for actors for several years, depending on whether he was available. He also worked for a long time as a teaching associate of acting coach Milton Katselas.

In an early television job, Tambor ran through an airport in an Avis Rent a Car commercial, mocking O. J. Simpson's "Go, O.J., go!" ads for Hertz.
