Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Hangover (2009)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The premise came from something that happened to producer Tripp Vinson, a friend of executive producer Chris Bender: he vanished from his own Las Vegas bachelor party, blacked out and came round in a strip club facing an enormous bill.
  • Warner Bros. paid Jon Lucas and Scott Moore over 2 million dollars for the original script, which had none of the film's best-known material; Mike Tyson and his tiger, the baby and the police cruiser were added when Jeremy Garelick and director Todd Phillips rewrote it.
  • Stu's missing front tooth is not makeup. Ed Helms never grew an adult incisor and had worn a dental implant since he was a teenager; it was simply taken out for filming.
  • Lindsay Lohan talked to Todd Phillips about playing Jade but was not cast, having been considered too young for what the two had discussed.
  • Todd Phillips wanted to use a genuine Taser on his actors and was trying to talk them into it until Warner Bros. lawyers stepped in.
  • The film became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy ever in the United States, taking a record off Beverly Hills Cop that had stood for almost 25 years, though adjusted for inflation it earned less than half what Beverly Hills Cop did.
  • Caesars Palace was still living with the film four years on: staff were quoted the check-in lines "Did Caesar live here?" and "Do you know if the hotel is pager-friendly?", the gift shop sold tens of thousands of Hangover souvenirs, and Hangover slot machines spread across the Las Vegas Valley.
