Plot summary
Christian Wolff's accounting practice in Plainfield, Illinois, is cover for his real work: untangling the records of criminal organizations that believe they have been robbed from within. His jobs reach him through a partner who arranges his business and identities by phone. Dana Cummings, who keeps the books at Living Robotics, spots irregularities, and its chief executive, Lamar Blackburn, and his sister Rita hire Christian to audit the firm with her help. He reports that $61 million has been embezzled, without naming a thief. At the Treasury Department, Director Ray King pressures analyst Marybeth Medina to identify the figure known as The Accountant.
