Plot summary
Boyd Mitchler wants his son Douglas to believe in Santa Claus for one more year. His brother Nelson asks him to be godparent to his baby, whose christening falls on December 24, so Boyd, his wife Luann and their children travel to Wisconsin to spend Christmas with his parents, Donna and Virgil, and the rest of the family. At the homestead, dinner brings arguments, and Virgil is unhappy that Boyd will not eat venison. Boyd remembers the gifts he left behind in Chicago, and his own car will not start. Virgil drives him in an old flatbed truck with a rack of portable toilets on the back, hoping for the round trip before Douglas wakes.
