Plot summary

Misha Galkin, a boy in the Soviet Union, sees a cow-shaped constellation in the night sky and is struck by lightning moments later. He grows up to become a marketing executive in Moscow, where the American Bob Gibbons comes to spread Western brands after communism. Abby, Bob's niece, arrives from America, and Misha and she start a relationship that Bob does not want. On a private Polynesian island, the marketing guru Joseph Pascal and fast food executives agree to change what the public considers beautiful. Misha takes on the promotion of "Extreme Cosmetica", a reality show built around an overweight woman who has plastic surgery in hopes of becoming thin. After the first operation the woman falls into a coma, audiences turn against the show, and Misha carries the blame.
