Plot summary
Madelyn Dinkley studies stage magic at the Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy, a castle where a giant gryphon has been scaring people off. Her older sister Velma and the rest of the gang travel there to see how she is doing. They find Madelyn, who has had a crush on Shaggy Rogers for years, and they meet Whirlen Merlin, the school's namesake, and Marlon, his brother, who cooks and keeps house; Crystal, Whirlen's former stage assistant; Amos, who tends the grounds; and Alma Rumblebuns, the head maid. Madelyn shows Shaggy around and says the gryphon once guarded the castle. Calvin Curdles, an ice cream mogul, keeps trying to buy it.
