Plot summary
Theo Moses is a young magician, and he is grieving his father. His mother shows him a video welcoming him to the Institute of Magic, the camp that Roy Preston runs, and, assuming his father sent in the application, Theo agrees to go. Andy is a former magician whose career has stalled, and he bears a grudge against Kristina Darkwood, whose act has found success in Las Vegas. Preston persuades Andy to come back to camp as a counselor beside her. The campers are split into four cabins that will compete at season's end for the Golden Wand. The Hearts cabin, which Andy leads, includes Theo, Nathan Jenkins, who has allergies, Ruth Brusselbach, who loves rabbits, Judd Kessler, and Vera Costa, who keeps to herself.
