Biography

Born in Bayonne, Frank Langella is an American actor who made his Broadway debut in 1966 in Yerma and went on to win four Tony Awards. He earned his first two for Seascape (1975) and Fortune's Fool (2002), and later won for his portrayals of Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon (2007) and an elderly man with Alzheimer's in The Father (2016). His film work includes The Twelve Chairs (1970), Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), Dave (1993), The Ninth Gate (1999), Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), and Frost/Nixon (2008), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He appeared in Robot & Frank (2012), Captain Fantastic (2016), and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020). On television, he played Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger in Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight (2013) and Senator Richard Russell Jr. in All the Way (2016), and had recurring roles in The Americans from 2013 to 2017 and Kidding from 2018 to 2020.

    Langella first played the title role in the 1977 Broadway production of Dracula. He had misgivings about playing the part again, but was talked into starring with Laurence Olivier in the film version directed by John Badham.
