Plot summary
Nelson Moss works in advertising in San Francisco. At the DMV he meets Sara Deever, whose driving test she fails after the instructor mistakes their talk for cheating. She waits for him outside and insults him, then finds where he lives and asks for a ride. That night she offers him a place in her home for the whole of November, saying the month will improve his life. He refuses because he already has a girlfriend. On the first of November he loses his job and his relationship, and accepts her offer.
