Plot summary
Harry March is a retired novelist living on a quiet island in the Hamptons with Hector, his talking dog, who is a born-again Evangelical and a firm believer in capitalism. Harry's routine breaks when a multimillionaire begins raising a huge mansion across from his house. To Harry, the building stands for the greed and excess he believes have ruined modern civilization, and he decides the two of them are at war. He works out an elaborate plan to get even with his new neighbor.
