Plot summary
Artie Shoemaker is a star-struck teenager in a small Ohio town in the early 1950s. He skips school to take a job behind the scenes of a touring stock theater company, and he is clumsy enough at the work that he nearly gets fired. The company's star, Harry Crystal, takes a liking to the boy and takes him under his wing. Artie is also smitten with Ramona, a chorus girl with the troupe, a worldly young woman.
