House of D (2004) on Netflix

Plot summary

Tommy is thirteen in Greenwich Village in 1973, and his father has just died. His mother sinks into mourning and leaves the boy to his own devices, so he causes trouble at school and spends his afternoons making deliveries with Pappass, a mentally challenged janitor who is his closest friend. He also befriends Lady, a woman serving time in a New York prison, and develops a crush on a schoolmate, Melissa, which leaves Pappass feeling set aside and behaving erratically. Three decades later, in Paris, artist Tom Warshaw looks back on that year, prompted by his son Odell's thirteenth birthday.
