Plot summary
Robin Shea is serving a sentence in a New Mexico prison. She slips away and ends up riding in the limousine of James Tiernan, a politician campaigning for governor who had toured the facility, and he brings her back in secret. While changing into her prison clothes, she meets Billy Moran, a carpenter working in the compound under supervision, and he hides her from the guards. A political ad about prison issues shows her who James is, so she telephones his campaign office before her parole hearing. He advises her to find a husband. Robin puts the offer to Billy, pledging money in return for a marriage lasting a year, and he agrees.
