Charles Hallahan
Biography
Charles Hallahan was an American actor whose career spanned theater, television, and film. He earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers and a master's from Temple, then performed with the American Conservatory Theater and helped found The Matrix Theatre Company in Los Angeles in 1977. His stage roles brought him three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle prizes for leading performances in Rat in the Skull, The Kentucky Cycle, and Endgame. On television he played Captain Charlie Devane in the NBC police drama Hunter from 1986 to 1991, was a regular on The Paper Chase and Grace Under Fire, and provided voices for Gargoyles. Among his film credits were Going in Style (1979), The Thing (1982), Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), Vision Quest (1985), Cast a Deadly Spell (1991), and Dante's Peak (1997), where he played a volcanologist. He also took his only leading film role as a detective in Mind Rage.
