Biography

Tony Todd, who died in 2024, was an American actor whose deep, gravelly voice made him a familiar presence on screen and in video games from the 1980s onward. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, he trained in theater at the Eugene O'Neill National Actors Theatre Institute and Trinity Repertory Company, then worked on and off Broadway, where his role in Athol Fugard's The Captain's Tiger brought a Helen Hayes nomination. He played the title figure in the Candyman series and William Bludworth across the Final Destination franchise, earning Critics' Choice and Fangoria Chainsaw Award nominations for the former. His films included Platoon (1986), Night of the Living Dead (1990), The Crow (1994), The Rock (1996) and Wishmaster (1997). He voiced the Fallen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and Venom in the game Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (2023), which brought him a British Academy Games Award nomination.
