Plot summary
On the opening night of the Sky View, a restaurant set atop an observation tower, Iris Campbell sees a chain of events that would bring the building down on everyone inside. She warns the guests, and the tower stays standing. Fifty-five years later, her granddaughter Stefani Reyes, a college student, is troubled by dreams of that day and comes home wanting answers. Her father Marty and her younger brother Charlie are there, and a visit to her uncle Howard and aunt Brenda turns up letters from Iris. The letters point Stefani to a fortified cabin where her grandmother lives, ill with cancer. Iris says that stopping the collapse put her at odds with Death, which has been taking the people she saved in the order they were meant to go, and their children after them.
