Plot summary

Allison, a theology student in Bucharest, guards the Lexicon, the book of prophecy that writes itself and will one day name the coming Antichrist. It passed into her care after Father Constantin found it in his church's catacombs and suffered a heart attack. The Thrones, renegade angels led by Stark, want the book, so Stark hires a contract killer named Dylan to kill Allison for it. Dylan breaks into her apartment and holds her at gunpoint, then takes her with him instead of finishing the job. Lucifer appears to a girl named Maria on a Bucharest street; she is struck by a car and tells Allison she has a message she cannot give her yet.
