Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Crow (1994)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The fatal scene called for the revolver to be fired at Lee from 12 to 15 feet with blank rounds. The firearms specialist had been sent home early and the barrel was not checked, so a bullet from a dummy round trapped inside was fired with virtually the force of a live round and struck Lee in the abdomen.
- James O'Barr wrote what would become The Crow as a means to cope with the unexpected death of his fiancee, who was killed by a drunk driver.
- New Order were approached to provide a cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart", their hit as Joy Division, for the film, citing parallels between Eric's resurrection and the band's formation after the suicide of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, but Bernard Sumner declined because they were busy with their album Republic.
- Paramount Pictures, initially interested in distributing the film theatrically, opted out over filming delays and controversy about the violent content being inappropriate given Lee's death; Miramax Films picked it up and injected a further $8 million, taking the budget to approximately $23 million.
- Christian Slater and River Phoenix were early considerations for the role of Eric Draven, and when Brandon Lee was suggested O'Barr was unconvinced, fearing he would not suit the material, but Lee won him over and was given the role shortly afterwards.
