Plot summary
Barry, an insurance salesman whose drinking has wrecked his career, spends the end of his day at Lincoln Towers, a New York City housing project, trying to close a life insurance sale with an elderly resident, Elva Briggs. Will, a telephone company employee, comes to the same building to fix the phone lines and see his girlfriend. Asking where Elva lives, Barry touches a boy named Decon on the shoulder, and the Vampires, the gang that controls the Towers, make him a target. Their leader, the Count, runs them like a cult and believes nothing can hurt him. Will is the first to offer Barry help.
