Plot summary
Lord Agon sacrifices a prisoner to regain his youth and tells the warlock Maldor that the Eye of Braxus will restore his kingdom. His aim is King Tal and, through him, Tal's brother Dar, who has power over animals. Korum, Kala and Pir take back roads to avoid the Crimson Warriors and run into the bandit Jaggart and his companion Bortho. Dar and his lion Ruh save the family and let the two bandits go. At Tal's encampment, Korum tells how Agon took his homeland of Almbeth, hunting the stronghold of the old god Braxus. Tal concludes that Agon wants a magical object and musters his forces. He hands Dar half of a family heirloom for safekeeping. That night the Crimson Warriors carry Tal off, and Dar joins the king's advisor Seth to bring him back.
