Plot summary
Superman is dead, killed by Doomsday, and crime spreads across a grieving Metropolis. Four figures appear wearing his shield: Superboy, whom Lex Luthor introduces at a press conference, Steel, the Eradicator, and the Cyborg Superman, who insists he is the real one. The Eradicator, Steel and the Cyborg Superman interrupt the gathering and fight among themselves until two of them leave. Lois Lane has been gathering information on the newcomers from various sources, and Clark Kent's adoptive parents still mourn him. The Cyborg Superman visits Lois at night to argue that he is genuine, and Luthor grows frustrated with Superboy's childish behavior.
