Biography

Scott Glenn is an American actor who began in the theater, making his Broadway debut in The Impossible Years in 1965 before joining The Actors Studio in 1968. After early television work, James Bridges gave him his first film role in The Baby Maker in 1970. He became known for playing both good guys and bad guys, appearing in Nashville (1975), Urban Cowboy (1980), The Right Stuff (1983), Silverado (1985), The Hunt for Red October (1990) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991), where he played Jack Crawford. Later credits include Absolute Power (1997), Training Day (2001), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), Sucker Punch (2011) and Greenland (2020). On television he played Kevin Garvey Sr. in The Leftovers, Stick in Daredevil and The Defenders, and Jim Hollinger in The White Lotus, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination.

A role that slipped away
Glenn was cast as Clay Morrow in the FX drama Sons of Anarchy, but after an early pilot episode he was replaced in the role by Ron Perlman.
A change of course
Glenn first tried to become an author, but he found his dialogue did not satisfy readers. He started taking acting classes taught by William Hickey to learn the art of dialogue.
