Plot summary
Daniel Bloch is a wealthy businessman. In his small town years earlier he had a girlfriend named Alice, and the two of them parted twenty years ago. Alice comes to the big city for a visit, and the two meet by chance. While they were together she became pregnant, and she left without telling him. The son she bore has recently died. Daniel learns all of this in one conversation, and he had no idea the child existed.
