Laura Linney
Biography
Laura Linney is an American actress and director who began in New York theater and became known for dramatic film roles. Born in Manhattan in 1964, she trained at Brown University and the Juilliard School before making her New York stage debut in 1990. Her early films included Lorenzo's Oil (1992), and she broke through as Jim Carrey's on-screen wife in The Truman Show (1998). She earned Academy Award nominations for You Can Count on Me (2000) and Kinsey (2004), and a third for The Savages (2007). She also appeared in Mystic River (2003), Love Actually (2003), The Squid and the Whale (2005), Mr. Holmes (2015), and Sully (2016). On television she won four Primetime Emmy Awards, for Wild Iris, Frasier, John Adams, and The Big C, and starred in Ozark from 2017 to 2022. She received five Tony Award nominations for Broadway work including The Crucible and The Little Foxes.

First role
In 1990 Linney played Nina in an Off Broadway version of The Seagull, staged in the Hamptons. Jeff Cohen conceived and directed the production, which was mounted at the RAPP Arts Center.
Early training
Linney graduated from Brown in 1986, then studied acting at the Juilliard School in Group 19 from 1986 to 90, alongside Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tim Blake Nelson.
Beyond film
In 2017, Linney appeared in a Broadway revival of The Little Foxes with Cynthia Nixon. The two swapped the parts of Regina and Birdie, and Linney earned her fourth Tony Award nomination for her work.
A first
Linney's first time directing television came in 2022, on the eleventh episode of the last season of Ozark, which was called "Pound of Flesh and Still Kickin'".
