Plot summary
Senator Dennis Darden leaves a warehouse and is attacked from behind in the dark. The killing carries the mark of Cassius, a Soviet assassin. CIA officers take charge of the case, and director Tom Highland calls in Paul Shepherdson, who spent years chasing Cassius without success. Highland introduces him to Ben Geary, a young FBI agent who wrote his master's thesis on the hunt for the killer. Ben is certain Cassius has come back to work, while Paul calls the murder a copycat. Paul has no wish for a partner, so Highland pairs the two men on the search for where Cassius might be.
