Bradley Whitford
Biography
Bradley Whitford is an American actor and producer who was born in Madison, Wisconsin and began working in television in the mid-1980s, taking a recurring part on the daytime drama All My Children. His Broadway debut came in 1990 in Aaron Sorkin's A Few Good Men. His best known role was White House aide Josh Lyman on NBC's The West Wing, which ran from 1999 to 2006 and brought him a Primetime Emmy Award in 2001 for supporting actor, and he also wrote two episodes of that series. His films include Adventures in Babysitting (1987), Scent of a Woman (1992), The Client (1994), Billy Madison (1995), The Cabin in the Woods (2012), Saving Mr. Banks (2013), Get Out (2017), The Post (2017), The Darkest Minds (2018) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). He earned further Emmys for Transparent and for The Handmaid's Tale, playing Commander Joseph Lawrence from 2018 to 2025.

Behind the award
In 2019, Whitford received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. That made him the first performer to take home guest acting Emmys in both the comedy and drama categories.
First role
Whitford made his Broadway debut in 1990 in Aaron Sorkin's play A Few Good Men as Jack Ross, and a few months later he took the lead role of Daniel Kaffee.

Whitford studied drama at the Juilliard School in New York as a member of Group 14, the same group as actor Wendell Pierce.
Behind the camera
Whitford wrote two episodes of The West Wing while playing Josh Lyman: "Faith Based Initiative" in the sixth season and "Internal Displacement" in the seventh.
