Raymond Burr
Biography
Raymond Burr was a Canadian actor whose long Hollywood career began with Broadway, radio, television and film work, often as a villain. Born in New Westminster, British Columbia, he appeared in more than 50 features between 1946 and 1957 and became known for film noir roles in pictures such as Raw Deal (1948) and The Blue Gardenia (1953). He played the suspected murderer in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954) and appeared in Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956), a role he reprised in Godzilla 1985 (1985). His performance as a prosecutor in A Place in the Sun (1951) impressed the producers of Perry Mason, leading to nine seasons as the title lawyer from 1957 to 1966, two Emmy Awards in 1959 and 1961, and 26 Perry Mason television movies beginning with Perry Mason Returns (1985). He also starred in Ironside, receiving six Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations.
