Ted de Corsia
Biography
Ted de Corsia was an American actor, born in Brooklyn in 1903 and raised in Manhattan, whose career began in radio. By the late 1920s he was performing on network radio dramas. His deep voice became familiar in crime and mystery programs; he starred as Mike Hammer in the title role and was Sergeant Velie in The Adventures of Ellery Queen, with roles also on Gang Busters and The Shadow. His first screen appearance came in Orson Welles's The Lady from Shanghai (1947), and he built a screen career as a villain and gangster during the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in The Naked City (1948), The Enforcer (1951), The Big Combo (1955), The Killing (1956), Slightly Scarlet (1956), and Baby Face Nelson (1957). In the late 1950s and 1960s he worked mostly in television westerns and appeared in three Perry Mason episodes. His last feature was The Outside Man (1972).
