Steve Brodie

Biography

Steve Brodie was an American actor of stage, film and television who was born in El Dorado, Kansas, and appeared in 79 feature films between 1944 and 1988. He worked at studios such as MGM, RKO and Republic, usually in Westerns and B-movies, and most often in supporting parts. Among those were the 1947 film noir Out of the Past, while Desperate, also from 1947, gave him a rare starring role. Later he appeared in two Elvis Presley films, Blue Hawaii (1961) and Roustabout (1964). From the mid-1950s his work was largely on television, with guest roles in many series; he played Sheriff Johnny Behan in The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp and made three appearances on Perry Mason. On stage in the 1950s he played Maryk in a national production of The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.

Brodie reportedly chose his screen name to honor Steve Brodie, a daredevil who said he survived a jump off the Brooklyn Bridge in 1886.
